Iran Unveils New Ballistic Missile During Military Parade

Iran unveils new multi-warhead missile as Rouhani slams Trump

The move was a direct challenge to President Donald Trump, who in August signed a bill imposing mandatory penalties on those involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.

But the U.S. has argued Iran's missile tests breach a United Nations resolution, which endorsed the nuclear deal.

"We will promote our defensive and military power as much as we deem necessary", Rouhani told a military parade.

The missile has a range of 2000 km (1242 miles) and can carry a warhead to a range of 1800 km (1118 miles).

Officials announced Friday that the missile would be tested "soon".

Trump has denounced Iran as a "rogue regime" and said its government was bent on "death and destruction".

The nuclear deal concluded in 2015 with the great powers does not prohibit the activities in ballistic missile from Iran, but the resolution 2231 of the security Council, which endorsed this agreement, calls on Iran not to carry out activities to develop missiles created to carry nuclear warheads.

Earlier in the day Iran said it had successfully tested a new medium-range missile, in defiance of warnings from Washington that it is ready to ditch a landmark nuclear deal over the issue. The missile is named Khorramshahr after the Iranian city where the first major engagement of the war occurred.

Golovkin, Canelo finally take over spotlight
Only the August 26 PPV that was headlined by Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is expected to outsell Saturday's PPV this year. The Mexican fighter has lost just one of his 51 career bouts with that defeat coming against Floyd Mayweather four years ago.

Thus far, the United Nations nuclear watchdog and the US State Department have reported that Tehran has complied with the terms of the nuclear deal.

"You are seeing images of the successful test of the Khorramshahr ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 km, the latest missile of our country", state television said.

"The ballistic missile will be operational in the near future".

The parade also showcased various Iranian army units and Revolutionary Guard forces, as well as the police.

The Khorramshahr is capable of carrying multiple warheads, according to Brig.

Rouhani, a moderate, has staked his reputation on sealing the nuclear deal and relieving the Iranian economy of debilitating global sanctions.

The president called on the world to join the U.S.

Trump put Iran "on notice" in February for test-firing a ballistic missile and imposed new economic sanctions in July over its missile program and "malign activities" in the Middle East.
