Donald Trump, South Korean leader discuss North Korea's 'Rocket Man'

"What has to happen is a senior American official or a trusted confidant of President Trump needs to get in the room with a senior North Korean official or confidant of Kim Jong Un".

She said: "At this stage we can not know Kim's true intentions - what we do know is that despite the condemnation and the worldwide sanctions, he shows absolutely no sign of voluntarily abandoning his nuclear or missile programmes".

Trump has threatened to rain "fire and fury" on North Korea. "None of us want war", she said on CNN.

"Hopefully, we're not going to have to use it on North Korea".

China has urged the United States to refrain from making threats to North Korea.

U.N. Ambassador to the United States Nikki Haley discusses the North Korean issue with reporters at the White House on Friday.

Haley's warning comes in stark contrast made by former USA state department officials who say there's still room to engage North Korea diplomatically. "Too bad!" wrote Trump on his Twitter account on Sunday.

North Korea said on Saturday it aimed to reach an "equilibrium" of military force with the United States.

The U.N. Security Council twice in recent weeks has voted unanimously to tighten economic sanctions on North Korea, including targeting shipments of oil and other fuel used in missile testing.

The United States still wants a peaceful solution and has been waiting for the North Koreans to indicate they are ready to talk, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said on CBS' "Face the Nation".

"The two leaders agreed on more practical and stronger pressure.to make the North Korean regime realise that further provocation will only bring stronger diplomatic isolation and economic pressure leading to a path of collapse", Blue House spokesman Park Soo-hyun said in a televised briefing.

"We have economically strangled North Korea at this point, and they have said as much", she said.
