Pope Francis blasts climate change skeptics, cites 'moral' duty to act

Pope Francis has condemned President Trump for moving to repeal the DACA program

"Because I heard the US president speak: He presents himself as a person who is pro-life".

In his homily in Medellin, Pope Francis said that when Jesus's disciples first began following him, they had to go through a process of conversion and purification, changing the way they saw the relationship between Jewish law and faith in God.

Francis said he was "grateful" to both Italy and Greece for "opening their hearts" on the migrant issue, and said he had seen "very lovely examples of integration" in Italy.

In his evaluation of climate change, Pope Francis said: "Each person has his own moral responsibility and the politicians have theirs".

While in the city he also paid a visit to the home of St Peter Claver, a 17th-century Jesuit priest who performed Catholic rites for slaves in defiance of their colonial masters who treated them as chattel.

During a press conference Sunday aboard the papal plane from Colombia to Rome, Pope Francis said that though he is not familiar with how the decision to end DACA was made, he hopes it will be reconsidered as part of a pro-life ethic which defends the unity of families.

Pope Francis today slammed climate change doubters as "stupid" in the wake of a spate of hurricanes that have thrashed the US, Mexico and the Caribbean.

At the end of the day, when he said Mass for hundreds of thousands of people in the city's port area, the bruise had swollen and he had a black bag under his eye.

The Trump administration announced September 5 that it would be taking steps to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, commonly known as DACA, which has benefited hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants who entered the U.S.as minors.

The Pope's comments, while nicer and more reserved, aren't far off from the criticism Hollywood stars and liberal politicians have hurled at Trump over his decision to end DACA. A POLITICO/ Morning Consult poll published the day of DACA's rescission, which surveyed 1,993 registered voters, found that 58 percent of American voters would like to see a pathway for DACA recipients to stay and become citizens after meeting certain requirements.

Pope Francis used the trip to urge common people in Colombia, all good Catholics to shun vengeance and to leave behind the bloody 50-year civil war.

"You can see the effects of climate change and scientists have clearly said what path we have to follow", he said, referring to a consensus by scientists that global warming is caused by human activity such as fossil fuels. "No more exploitation!" In turn, Trump suggested the Mexican government got Francis to take a stand on immigration. "They speak very clearly".

What they were doing, he said, was saying, "This is my treasure".
