Kelly Calls Sessions to Assure Attorney General Position Is Safe

Republicans Would Support Trump Firing Jeff Sessions, Latest Poll Shows

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was reportedly assured by the White House that his gig at the Justice Department is safe - despite the barrage of attacks coming from the president. The people demanded anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about a private conversation.

Kelly said Trump was still annoyed with Sessions' decision in March to recuse himself from the investigation of alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 USA election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign, but there had been "kind of a thaw" in Trump's attitude toward him, according to the official.

Trump called Sessions "weak" for recusing himself from the federal criminal investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and whether the president or any of his associates colluded with Moscow. The president viewed that decision as disloyal - the most grievous sin in Trump's orbit.

Sessions called out corrupt doctors and pharmacists contributing to the opioid epidemic as he made the announcement in Ohio. "Time will well. Time will tell". The cities have until August 18 to respond to the requests. The Department of Justice also did not immediately respond. The outreach to Sessions appears to have been a top priority in that effort.

The former DHS secretary, John Kelly, was sworn in Monday as Trump's new chief of staff.

Instead, the White House has recently embraced some of Sessions' directives. Meanwhile Scaramucci, who abruptly left his job after 10 days this week, told a reporter at a briefing that there was a high level of "tension" between Trump and Sessions, and that Trump "probably" wanted Sessions gone.
