Foxconn could triple $10bn investment in United States facilities, according to Trump

Wisconsin State Capitol

"The historic $10 billion investment Foxconn is making in Wisconsin is a clear sign that businesses around the world are recognizing the many benefits of establishing operations in our state,"Walker said".

Gou previously said that Foxconn was considering locating in seven states before Trump announced last week that a massive liquid crystal display monitors plant would be going to Wisconsin.

The deal, which Wisconsin leaders and President Donald Trump have heralded as transformational for the state and national economy, requires the state to approve $3 billion in tax breaks tied to Foxconn hiring and spending as promised. It did not discuss Trump's statement about the total investment amount or Trump's claims that Gou told it to him in confidence.

Trump said at the event last week that Foxconn's investment will create at minimum 3,000 jobs, "with the potential for up to 13,000 in very near future". He didn't elaborate on how the figure could grow so high or even clarify whether he was referring to just Wisconsin or nationwide -including investments in other plants not yet announced.

But according to the President, "He told me off the record, he thinks he may go $30 billion. We will provide an update as soon as we have finalised those plans".

The Wisconsin factory is scheduled to open by 2020.

But doing so requires approval from a Republican-controlled Legislature that still hasn't passed a 2017-19 state budget.

China's Foxconn - who manufacture Apple's iPhone and iPod, and Amazon's Kindle - have revealed plans for a $10 billion plant in the USA. Some Democrats and others have questioned whether the incentives are too much, while also raising concerns about the proposed waiving of state environmental permit requirements and other regulations to speed up construction.

It's new plant will be in the U.S. state of Wisconsin.
