Senate committee subpoenas former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort

Report Robert Mueller is broadening Russia investigation to include Trump’s business transactions

The Senate Judiciary Committee has issued a subpoena to former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort seeking his testimony at a public hearing on Wednesday. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) said in a joint statement Tuesday that they were ultimately not able to accommodate Manafort's request to provide to Congress only a single transcribed interview that would not be shared with the Judicary Committee.

A federal special counsel and several congressional panels are investigating allegations by US intelligence agencies that Russia meddled in the 2016 USA presidential election and potential connections between Russian officials and the Trump campaign. But Mr. Kushner insisted that he did not collude with Russian Federation and that "all of my actions were proper". The president also has denied knowing about the meeting until recently. White House senior adviser Jared Kushner speaks to reporters outside the White House in Washington, Monday, July 24, 2017, after meeting on Capitol Hill behind closed doors with the Senate Intelligence Committee on.

After that meeting, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, the ranking Democrat on that committee who has been a fierce Trump critic, said Kushner's appearance was "very productive" and that "we had an opportunity to ask about a range of issues the Committee has been concerned about".

The House Intelligence Committee says it will meet with Kushner on Tuesday, a day after a private meeting scheduled with the Senate Intelligence Committee. The person said that Mr. Manafort's legal team had offered to provide a transcript of Tuesday's interview with the Senate Judiciary Committee. He is the first top Trump lieutenant to be quizzed by the congressional investigators probing Russia's interference in the election.

This person said Manafort would answer questions about the June 9, 2016, meeting, which was precipitated by the attorney, Natalia Veselnitskaya, offering to help Donald Trump's campaign by providing dirt on Clinton.

Manafort could be excused from the hearing by agreeing to the "production of documents and a transcribed interview", they said.

Meanwhile, Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley and Democratic Sen.

Trump Jr. had earlier expressed his willingness to testify.

"The ambassador said that would not be possible and so we all agreed that we would receive this information after the Inauguration".
