Live Crew rapper Fresh Kid Ice dead at 53

David Hobbs Mark Ross Christopher Wong

Fresh Kid Ice aka Chris Wong Won of hardcore rap outfit 2 Live Crew has passed away.

According to the group's manager (via TMZ), Fresh Kid Ice passed away just before 8 a.m. early Thursday morning (Jul. 13) at a Miami hospital due to an undisclosed medical condition.

Their most popular album, As Nasty As They Want To Be, which was released in 1989, was the first album that the U.S. government deemed legally obscene.

In 1988, shortly before the release of 2 Live Crew's sophomore album Move Somethin' in 1988, Fresh Kid was involved in a near fatal vehicle accident. After the group relocated to Miami, they lost Hobbs, but gained Mark Ross, "Brother Marquis", and local rapper Luther Campbell.

Wong Won was arrested at Club Futura in Hollywood after performing songs from the album "As Nasty As They Wanna Be", which a judge ruled violated federal obscenity laws.

Long March 5 launch fails
Xinhua only said that an "anomaly" occurred during the launch, and that an investigation would take place. It was unclear from the live broadcast of the launch that there had been any problems with the operation.

Fresh Kid and the group's biggest contribution to American rap and pop culture is that they became poster children for First Amendment rights after the constantly tested and stretched the boundaries of self-expression, political correctness and decency.

The group disbanded after their 1998 album, The Real One, but Won continued to release music as a solo artist.

'The Asians were there in the beginning of hip-hop - but as DJs, ' he said.

Campbell tweeted: "People we lost a legend". In 2009 and 2010, Won suffered two unrelated strokes and had to learn how to walk and speak again, Vibe reports. He was age 53 at the time of his death.
