Venus Williams Reportedly Involved In Fatal Car Crash In Florida

TMZ reports that tennis star Venus Williams was allegedly involved in a auto crash on June 9 resulting in injuries that later lead to a man's death.

According to TMZ, 78-year-old Jerome Barson died two weeks after suffering head trauma following a June 9 crash involving Williams. The driver, who has not been named, said Williams' SUV "suddenly darted into the intersection" and she didn't have time to stop before the collision.

Venus told police that she had to slow her speed as traffic had become backed up, according to TMZ.

It also said that there was no evidence she had been distracted by an electronic device.

'[Venus] is at fault for violating the right of way of [the other driver],' it said. The website TMZ reported that Williams was found at fault, but it was unclear if she was cited. His wife suffered broken bones and other injuries.

Williams has been contacted for comment. The report says Williams was driving an estimated speed of 5 miles per hour.

Williams drove a 2010 Toyota Sequoia and the Barson's, of West Palm Beach, traveled in a 2016 Hyundai Accent. Williams also said she did not see the Barsons' auto when she crossed the intersection.

The news comes less than a week before Williams is expected to play at Wimbledon. She paid a $163 fine after that incident.
