Texas Mom Charged After A 'Lesson' Leads To Death

Texas mom arrested after 2 children die in hot car during ‘lesson

After what authorities say was a two- to three-hour nap, Randolph reportedly told them she came back outside to find her children unresponsive.

Today, Tribune Media Wire reports that Randolph has been charged with "first-degree felony counts of injury to a child causing serious bodily injury".

The incident happened at Ms Randolph's home near Lake Weatherford, the Parker County Sheriff's office says. Randolph initially told authorities the kids locked themselves in the vehicle while she was doing laundry.

Cynthia Marie Randolph, 25, told "several variations of the events" during police interviews, and later said she broke the auto window to make it look like an accident according to WFAA. As Randolph allegedly meant to leave the children in the hot vehicle to teach them a lesson, she may not have intended for them to die. According to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth, temperatures reached 96 degrees that day. Huffman and a person who answered the phone at the Parker County jail had no information about whether she had an attorney.

She said when she noticed they were no longer there, she went looking for them and found them about a half-hour later locked in the vehicle.

San Jose State University professor Jan Null, who works with the National Safety Council, said 13 children have died this year from heat strokes after being left in hot cars, the station reported.

The children were pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 p.m.

In documents released Friday, the Parker County Sheriff's Department used Randolph's alleged shifting statements about how her children died as probable cause to charge her. She even broke the window to rescue them. Initially, the mother told cops that she was doing chores in the house when the children "took off".

Randolph confessed to breaking the windows to make it look as though the kids had been locked in by accident.
