Srikanth reaches 3rd successive Super Series final

India's shuttler Kidambi Srikanth defeated Rio champion Chen Long to win the Australia Open Series on Sunday held in Sydney.

Playing in his third consecutive Super Series final in Sydney, Kidambi needed just 46 minutes as he fended out Chen Long 22-20, 21-16 in the final match of the men's singles event.

It took Srikanth a minute less than the first game to wrap up a rather comfortable victory. But Srikanth raced to a 6-2 lead over the current All England Champion and in a similar fashion to the opening game, took a 11-9 lead at the short break.

Srikanth got better of qualifier Kan Chao Yu followed by World no. 1 Son Wan Ho and Praneeth respectively. The 24-year-old Indian shuttler dominated the proceedings right from the start and finished off in straight games to reach the summit clash.

But perhaps jolted by the lead he had conceded, Long gathered himself just in time, starting with a deftly- placed smash, to make it 11-11. The world number 6 had defeated Lee Hyun Il of South Korea in a tough three-game battle in the other semi-final before facing off Srikanth. A few errors crept into both player's games which meant that no one was able to take a healthy lead. Srikanth has previously reached the final of the Singapore Open and Indonesia Open.

In addition, large easterly swells of at least 5 to 6 metres (16 to 20 feet) are also forecasted to accompany the system. The main risk with this system, regardless of development, will be very heavy rain along portions of the Gulf Coast.

Srikanth Kidambi has been on a rampage ever since he lost to Chen Long at the Sudirman Cup in May.

Srikanth secured a total of 9200 points after emerging as the victor which will take his tally to 34260 points. So, I am happy he pulled it off in two straight games.

The 12 tournaments lead to a finals at the Dubai World Superseries, and the Dubai champion is crowned the BWF superseries overall victor for the year.

Applauding Srikanth's win, the Badminton Association of India (BAI) president Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday announced Rs. 5 lakh cash reward for him.
