Trump may 'terminate' Russian Federation probe's Mueller says president's pal

The reason Mueller was appointed in the first place is because Trump fired Comey and Sessions, who would have ordinarily taken over the investigation, had recuse himself in March over his own Russian Federation ties. He did not notify White House or Attorney General in advance of his move.

Well, it appears that Ruddy was right all along - he pointed out after the fact that the White House never denied the claim - as the New York Times is now reporting that the president has indeed entertained the idea.

Rosenstein, who has been on the job for six weeks, said only he could fire Mueller, and only if he found good cause to do so.

Mueller is leading the investigation into Russia's meddling in the 2016 election and potential ties between Moscow and Trump's presidential campaign. "That's undemocratic on its face and a blatant violation of the president's oath of office". But the president is going to seek the advice of his counsel and inside the government as well as outside. They have tried to highlight the positive reviews he received Wednesday when he made a statesman-like appearance in the White House to address the nation after Rep. Steve Scalise was shot during a congressional baseball practice.

The Ninth Circuit, said to be the most liberal of the federal courts of appeal, predictably upheld an injunction on Monday on Trump's revised travel ban temporarily preventing citizens from six Muslim-majority nations - Iran, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Sudan and Somalia - from entering the US.

Third, he said, Rosenstein could also re-define the scope and powers of the investigation. The regulations that govern the special counsel were issued by the Department of Justice and could be rescinded by DOJ.

Ruddy, who is chief executive of Newsmax Media and a member of Trump's Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Fla., confirmed his view in a text message to The Washington Post but did not elaborate. Jonathan Chait says that Trump absolutely would do that and his argument is a pretty compelling one. The person spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations.

Sanders' comment follows several days of speculation as to whether Trump was thinking about firing Mueller.

Collins' question wasn't the only time the Mueller investigation came up during Rosenstein's hearing on Capitol Hill.

Tuesday morning, Trump supporter Ari Fleischer, who served as President George W. Bush's press secretary, again highlighted the issue of Mueller's probe being handled by attorneys who have donated mostly to Democrats, a message that Donald Trump Jr. quickly retweeted to his own 1.7 million followers.

Sessions then recused himself in March from overseeing the FBI's Russian Federation probe and delegated that authority to his new deputy attorney general, Rod J. Rosenstein.

Trump could ask Rosenstein to reconsider.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the No 2 official at Justice, also promised on Tuesday (Wednesday NZ Time) that the special counsel, former FBI Director Robert Mueller, would have the independence to pursue the investigation as he saw fit.

Representative Don Beyer of Virginia tweeted, "Donald Trump can't fire his way out of this". The question is substantial enough that, now that it's clear how central Comey's role in such a claim is, Trump would be justified in firing Mueller.
