Scalise on the mend, now in 'serious' condition

BRITAIN-ATTACKS-VEHICLE

Top Republican politician Steve Scalise's condition has been upgraded from critical to serious after he was gunned down at a party baseball practice outside Washington.

The shooter who opened fire on Republican congressmen at baseball field in Virginia had blasted GOP lawmakers and supported taxing the rich for years, according to a review of more than two dozen letters he wrote to his local hometown newspaper.

The 66-year-old gunman who shot Scalise and three other people was killed in a shootout with police at the baseball field in Alexandria, across the Potomac River from the U.S. Capitol.

The House Majority Whip underwent several surgeries after the shooting.

"His risk of death right now is substantially lower than when he came in". Because the bullet shattered, there may be hundreds of fragments in Mr Scalise's body and doctors do not intend to try to remove them all, Dr Sava said.

Scalise is expected to fully recover and be able to walk. A government official says the suspect in the Virgini.

OH triple homicide: 2 college students, mother found dead in bedroom
Wrote the 21-year-old in the bio on her Facebook page: 'Life's too short to sit and wait for luck to come your way '. The girls' stepmother, Sonya Pifer , described her stepdaughters as "great kids" and "great students".

But Scalise still faces multiple surgeries, a prolonged hospital stay and a lengthy recovery, Sava stressed.

The handwritten list reportedly included the names of Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan and Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, who were all at the baseball practice, according to NBC News and CNN. Hodgkinson had posted comments critical of President Trump on his social-media accounts and engaged in a profane tirade about Trump in a chance conversation with an auto mechanic the day before the attack in Alexandria, where Hodgkinson had been living in his van since about March. "This was a Republican practice, the suspected shooter asked me who was practicing, I told him it was the Republicans".

Officials said Hodgkinson was carrying notes on which he had written the names of some Republican lawmakers. The shooter was an IL man, James Hodgkinson, who had lashed out against US President Donald Trump and Republicans over social media. But he stopped short of providing specifics of Scalise's internal injuries. One congressman and four other people were shot before police took down Hodgkinson.

In the wake of this tragedy, all we can do is pray for the continued healing of Louisiana Congressmen Steve Scalise and give thanks that the lives of Congressmen Brooks and Palmer and so many others were spared Wednesday morning.

Bailey was spotted on Friday in the Capitol, on crutches and out of uniform, accepting congratulations from fellow officers.
