The WBC ruler Deontay Wilder, was arrested in his hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama after a traffic stop around 4pm on Wednesday.

Wilder was picked up in Tuscaloosa by police officers after doing a search as they smelt the drug from the auto during a routine traffic stop. Police spokeswoman Lt. Teena Richardson said Wilder was pulled over for a tint violation in the vicinity of Skyland Boulevard and McFarland Boulevard.

'A small amount of marijuana was detected in the vehicle and Officer Roach arrested Mr Wilder for misdemeanour possession'.

Wilder was charged by police and released on a £780 ($1,000) bond.

Wilder's attorney Paul Patterson told the Tuscaloosa News that the marijuana did not belong to Wilder and that someone had used his vehicle when he was out of town. "Wilder for misdemeanor possession", he said.

Reports in the United States and New Zealand have revealed Wilder is in talks for a possible unification with Joseph Parker, although special dispensation would be needed from the World Boxing Council and WBO (Parker's title authority) in order to make that match-up.

Wilder won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics.

The 31-year-old called out Parker for a unification bout via social media back in April.

Meanwhile Bermane Stiverne remains the mandatory challenger for Wilder's prestigious crown. Wilder has never lost a professional fight with an incredible 38-0 record and 37 KOs.
