DC, Maryland Attorneys General to File 'Major Lawsuit' Against Trump

Attorneys general for Maryland and the District of Columbia are suing President Trump over "unprecedented constitutional violations" related to Trump's decision to retain ownership of his businesses while in office, The Washington Post reports.

The lawsuit, which comes days after the Justice Department defended Trump's business empire from accepting foreign payments in a separate, similar case, alleges that the president has violated the Emoluments Clause by accepting millions of dollars in payments on properties his company owns.

The attorneys general of Maryland and D.C., both Democrats, have scheduled a news conference for noon ET in Washington.

Wonder Woman rules Box Office
With great reviews and great ticket sales, Wonder Woman seems to have easily passed the test that Hollywood set before it. The film's early foreign gross through Friday is $47.1 million from 55 markets, including $11.7 million from China.

This is not the first time Trump has been accused of violating the clause.

According to ABC News, the lawsuit alleges that Trump violated the Constitution in regards to his business dealings. The case would likely end up before the Supreme Court and the president's lawyers could explain why his returns should not be made public, Frosh and Racine told the Post. It will be filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, the report said. The entrance to the Trump International Hotel in D.C. was splashed with guerilla art in May, suggesting that foreign guest could drop off bribes inside. The first was filed in January by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a D.C. -based watchdog group.

The hotel has tilted the playing field in the city's travel and entertainment industry in favor of a venue leased by a Trump company - at least, that is, when it comes to foreign governments that book venues in the nation's capital.
