British Authorities Under Scrutiny as 2 London Bridge Attackers Named

Police on Tuesday were facing questions over how one of the London Bridge attackers slipped through the net as British Prime Minister Theresa May continued to come under attack over police funding cuts.

Police have not yet released the identity of the third person involved in carrying out the attack on London Bridge, where the van swerved into pedestrians, and in nearby Borough Market, where the knife-wielding assailants slashed and stabbed anyone in their path.

With flags at half-mast, the nation fell silent at 11:00 a.m. (1000 GMT) to remember the seven killed and dozens injured on Saturday night - a mourning ritual now grimly familiar after two previous terror attacks in less than three months.

Police have named the attackers as Khurum Butt, 27, who had been known for his extremist views; 30-year-old Rachid Redouane, also known as Rachid Elkhdar; and Youssef Zaghba, a 22-year-old Italian national of Moroccan descent who was reportedly working in a London restaurant.

As Khan spoke, police named two of the three attackers as Khuram Shazad Butt and Rachid Redouane.

A property in Ilford, east London, was also searched by police at around 01:30 BST, but no arrests had been made, the Met said.

Premier Rachel Notley said the London attack hit Alberta especially hard because Archibald was known and loved by so many in the province.

Butt, who was 27 as well and had been born in Pakistan, is understood to have been the attacker who was seen wearing an Arsenal football shirt at the time of the attack.

Both agreed that the country will have to make changes as security services - which for years successfully thwarted attacks on British soil - struggle to confront a threat that is growing in scale and tempo. "One of my friends would let Abz babysit his daughter", Mimbo said.

Police were not yet releasing the names of the dead, but thousands of people gathered at Potters Field, across from the Tower Bridge and the medieval Tower of London, to pay tribute to the victims. "What happened?" he told Sky News.

As the Islamic State group, which claimed the three British attacks, loses territory in Iraq and Syria, its focus is likely to shift to assaults on the West, said Otso Iho of Jane's Terrorism and Insurgency Centre.

May described the latest incident as "an attack on the free world".

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said he would support calls for May to quit, as she had overseen a sharp reduction in police numbers in her past job as interior minister. May said the vote would take place as scheduled Thursday because "violence can never be allowed to disrupt the democratic process".

Police chief Cressida Dick said investigators had seized "a huge amount of forensic material" from the attackers' van.

"It's just a fact that, over the last seven years, we as a city have lost 600 million pounds from our budgets".

Boris Johnson, Britain's foreign secretary, said that the police and security services will have questions to answer about why Butt was not stopped.

Butt was investigated by authorities in 2015, but they were unable to find evidence that he was planning an attack and was "prioritised in the lower echelons of MI5's investigative work".

Corbyn's critics have often accused him of weakness on terrorism, citing his sympathy for members of the Palestinian group Hamas, Lebanon's Hezbollah and Sinn Fein, the former political wing of the Irish Republican Army.
