USA teen breaks internet record, spurred by love of nuggets

Carter Wilkerson is approaching top retweet of all time

And even though Wilkerson didn't quite hit the 18 million mark, Wendy's made a decision to go ahead and give him the free nuggets for a year. Wilkerson tweeted "Consider it done".

More than a month later, Carter plea to Twitter's cold, unfeeling void had only managed to rack up a mere 3.4 million RTs or so. Now that everything was made official, Wendy's held up its end of the bargain, and also chose to award Carter the year's supply of chicken nuggets 15,000,000 retweets early.

His plea for retweets was shared almost 3 million times in less than a week, receiving attention from tech giants like Amazon, Microsoft and Google.

Wilkerson has now surpassed the record of around 3.5 million, previously held by an Ellen Degeneres tweet at the 2014 Oscars.

Along the way, some celebrities have gotten involved - Ellen even had Carter on her show to talk about his efforts to get #nuggsforcarter.

After sending out a plea for the world to help him attain his free chicken, corporate support rolled in from giants like Apple, Google, and Microsoft; Twitter, naturally, gave the teen a verified badge in addition to his own hashtag, complete with a custom emoji.

More work needed in mental health: Coleman
Some of the services provided by the center includes counseling, parent workshops, and support services. The month of May is used to help people understand how common it is.

It's not every day when someone breaks the all-time record for the most retweets on Twitter while also managing to save America's foster children. I worked really hard. The company is also donating $100,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in honor of the milestone.

The news will come as a blow to former record holder Ellen DeGeneres.

Wendy's says Carter has earned the nuggets despite not hitting the 18 million mark.

There's further evidence that social media and participation trophies are clearly ruining entire generations after a teen was rewarded with chicken nuggets despite falling well short of expectations.

'We could not be more excited for Carter for having broken the record of the most Retweeted Tweet of all time.
