Nintendo sold more Zelda games than Switch consoles in March

Nintendo has recently offered concrete numbers about how strong their sales were for the latest "Legend of Zelda" game and the Nintendo Switch.

"While Nintendo Switch sales are off to a record-breaking start, shipments have not yet been able to keep up with such high demand", the company said in a press release. These individuals could have factored into the game's over-100% attach rate with the Switch. In the same announcement, Nintendo announced they sold 1.3 million copies of Zelda.

Nintendo should be incredibly happy with the early returns, and while impressive, it still lags slightly behind Nintendo's top console, the Wii. New consoles, from Nintendo and others, are historically released in the immediate lead-up to the holidays. That makes Nintendo Switch one of the fastest-selling video game systems of all time.

Nintendo Switch sold more than 906,000 units across the United States in March according to the NPD Group, but that wasn't the only success that Nintendo could celebrate.

After the flopping of the Wii U, the Nintendo Switch is a great comeback for Nintendo.

The new Nintendo Switch game console is displayed at a pop-up Nintendo venue in Madison Square Park, March 3, 2017 in New York City. The Wii U's best-selling Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, sold roughly 2.11 million copies between September 2013 and December 2016. The Switch is still selling faster than they can replenish stock, though, so it could also be that some players bought the game and are waiting for a console to play it on. "We are thrilled with the incredible response we have received to date for Project Scorpio, and look forward to sharing more about the Xbox One family of devices in the coming months". The game company was proud of this achievement as these two items broke sales records in western shores.
