2 additional aviation officers placed on leave in United passenger controversy

United CEO We won't let police drag people off planes anymore

Munoz called the embarrassment a "system failure", saying United will review its policies for seeking volunteers to give up their seats when a flight is full.

In an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America" that aired Wednesday, Munoz said he felt "ashamed" watching video of Dao being forced off the jet.

"The idea that a man who was physically dragged off the plane, wailing in pain as blood rushed out of his head, was just "re-accommodated" is grotesque", he said.

Embattled airline United has made a further move to smooth things over following the violent removal of a passenger, by offering refunds to all those on the flight.

In the future, law enforcement will not be involved in removing a 'booked, paid, seated passenger, ' Mr Munoz said. 'We can't do that'.

All customers on Flight 3411 Sunday are receiving compensation for the cost of their tickets, United said. The video showing Dao, who is now hospitalized after the incident, being pulled out of his seat and screaming as officers dragged him down the aircraft at Chicago O'Hare airport, received millions of views.

The passenger, Dr. David Dao, has been released from a hospital but will need reconstructive surgery, Demetrio said at a news conference, appearing alongside one of Dao's children.

The 69-year-old from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, refused to leave the flight, saying he needed to get home to treat patients.

Dao's attorneys Wednesday filed papers asking the Cook County court to preserve reports and other material related to Sunday's incident. The department said it is continuing its investigation into the incident.

"Currently, they are focused only on Dr. Dao's medical care and treatment".

It wasn't until Tuesday that Munoz was more contrite.

A video of Dao being pulled from his seat after he refused to leave the full plane has been seen around the world.

Along with the airline, the City of Chicago was also named.

"They roughed him up, and the reason they were overbooked is because they were trying to get four United Airlines employees on board", he revealed.

"We recognize that when a passenger books a ticket, they are entitled to certain rights", he said.

His attorneys, along with some of his family members, are scheduled to talk to reporters Thursday.

No passengers on the plane have mentioned that Dao did anything but refuse to leave the plane when he was ordered to do so.

A Chicago aviation officer dragged Dao off the aircraft, as Dao's glasses slid down his face, which was later bloodied. No one volunteered when passengers were offered vouchers to change their flight.

United's CEO Oscar Munoz quickly came under fire for his initial response to the incident and issued another statement on Tuesday formally apologizing for how Dao has been removed.
